My GSXR-600 Before,

A stunning bike!

.. and after.

Dyno GRAPH Links at bottom of page!

When I first started this page it was just weeks after getting the bike, so much of it now isn't as fresh as it seems, but I got more email on this bike than any other, and everyone says, Yea, mine does that too! I'm going to keep this link here to the original page, in case I mess it up, and loose any content, because a lot has happened between then and now.

I've now raced and entire season on this bike. Got schooled by Formula USA Tray Beaty, on how to take turn 7 at PIR. Loaned my bike to WMRRA #1 plate holder, and currently #7 in the AMA 750 superbike, Jimmy Moore. Talked with several other GSXR-600 racers. Here's some blathering about what I've learned.

97 vs 98 model: The 1998 GSXR-600 is worse than the 97 model. Nobody can make it work as well. Many AMA teams that started with a 98 model, have gone back to the 97 model. But this information, being free, is probably worth what you paid for it. By now they have probably figured out how to make it work.

Power: Without doing any Supersport Engine modifications, (IE… Just carb and pipe adjustments), 98 rear wheel horsepower is attainable. The two most common combination, Hindle Exhaust, with factory jet kit. And Yoshimura full system with their jet kit.

Suspension: In order of importance. Raise the rear 1/2". Get a good steering damper. Replace the front fork springs. Really fast tiny guys need rear sets, (I didn't). Rear shock, and spring if you can afford it. The front end will get a nasty wobble at high speeds that is much more controllable with a damper.

Tires: Dunlop 207's. Cut 2 1/2 seconds off my lap times from stock 204's.

Bodywork hint: The rear combination fender, battery box holder, blinker stub, can be cut under the rear passenger seat, such that the blinkers can remain stock but be easily removed for combination street / race use.

Brakes: Take the retaining springs off the front brakes to allow them better ability to come off the disk. Get braided lines.

Jetting: Need a hint for a stock bike, read my old page.

Now, how did I do. In the 97/98 season. You can read my finishing information near at the table below. I'm not the fastest guy, but I'm not the slowest either. I'm probably one of the fastest guys over 250 lbs though! For comparisons Jimmy Moore, on my bike finished 3rd in the 750 race, and 3rd in the 600 race. This was before I replaced the suspension.

Here are the Dyno results. I'll try to post some newer ones soon.

This Dyno run was done with only 600 miles on the Engine, so It wasn't redlined.
